Making Lemonade

Beyonce is arguably the most well known pop star in the world. Six solo albums into her career, she has released content that is perhaps the most personal exploration of her own identity as a black woman. This workshop will use Beyonce's visual album Lemonade to explore the themes of history, identity and faith as embodied and experienced by black women in America in the age of #blacklivesmatter.

Austin Channing Brown is a Resident Director and Multicultural Liaison for Calvin College by day. Managing a residence hall filled with millennials keeps her busy, but by night she becomes a writer. Passionate about racial justice and reconciliation, Austin travels the country preaching and teaching about the ways this work intersects with faith. She is working on her first book which will be published by Convergent Books in 2018.
