Michael Le Roy is one step closer to becoming the ninth president of Calvin College. Le Roy currently serves as provost and executive vice president at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.
On Saturday, January 7, The Calvin College Board of Trustees voted to accept the recommendation of the presidential search committee and appoint Dr. Michael Le Roy to the position of President at Calvin College. Le Roy was the presidential search committee's unanimous recommendation to the Board.
"The Board of Trustees is both blessed and honored to appoint Dr. Michael Le Roy to the position of President at Calvin," said Scott Spoelhof, chair of Calvin's Board of Trustees. "He is a collaborative, visionary leader with proven academic, administrative, and scholarship skills who is committed to furthering the mission of Calvin. His commitment to reformed theology will serve our institution well as we not only interact with our existing constituencies, but also seek to engage the broader evangelical community."
Le Roy will need ratification of the Board's decision at the Christian Reformed Church's SYNOD meeting in June 2012 in order to become Calvin's next president.
NOTE: Members of the media will have the opportunity to meet and ask Le Roy questions from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, at the Covenant Fine Arts Center (Room 135). Because of Le Roy's busy schedule during this visit to Grand Rapids, there won't be opportunities for one-on-one interviews. A Mult Box will be available for audio and Le Roy will take questions from a mic'd podium. This will be Le Roy's only media availability this weekend.

A summary of the search process
On May 20, 2011, Calvin College president Gaylen J. Byker informed the Board of Trustees of his plan to retire following the 2011-2012 academic year.
In late May/early June, the executive committee of the Board of Trustees chose longtime board member Dave Vander Ploeg to chair the presidential search committee and a 16-member committee was formed. (The group was comprised of representatives from the board of trustees, faculty, staff/administration, alumni, students and the Christian Reformed Church of North America).
On June 14, 2011, the committee held its first meeting. Rob Stevenson of the search firm SIMA international immediately joined the process.
On July 28, 2011, the committee submitted the final draft of the opportunity profile-a document describing the qualifications, experience, characteristics, gifts and abilities desired in the next president of Calvin College. The profile was largely formed from information provided by the more than 1,750 surveys submitted by faculty, staff, trustees, students and alumni.
From August through October, the committee received and considered a plethora of nominations.
In late October, the committee conducted initial interviews. A second round of interviews took place weeks later.
On December 14, 2011, the committee announced their unanimous decision to recommend Michael Le Roy to the Board of Trustees.
On January 7, 2012, the Board of Trustees voted to accept the recommendation of the presidential search committee and appointed Dr. Michael Le Roy to the position of President at Calvin College.
