Presidential Search Committee Announced

The executive committee of Calvin's Board of Trustees announces the appointment of a presidential search committee, which will lead the effort of selecting the college's ninth president.

The executive committee of the board of trustees solicited nominations and input from various Calvin constituencies in selecting the 16-member search committee, comprised of representatives from the board of trustees, faculty, staff/administration, alumni, students and the Christian Reformed Church of North America.

Dave Vander Ploeg, long-time member of the Calvin Board of Trustees, will chair the committee, which also includes the following:

Ruth Palma, Terry Van Der Aa, Michelle Van Dyke (Board of Trustees)

Jennifer Holberg, Won Lee, Leonard Van Drunen (Faculty)

Stan Haan, Mary Hulst (Staff/Administration)

Benita A. Samuel (Alumni)

Kelly Larsen (Students)

Rev. Scott Greenway (Christian Reformed Church of North America)

Ken Erffmeyer, Marge Hoogeboom, Milt Kuyers, Martin Mudde (At-Large Selections)

The committee will begin meeting on Monday, June 13, 2011. The committee's mandate is spelled out in the "Procedure for Appointing a President of Calvin College," which was adopted by the board of trustees in May, 1994. It reads:

"The presidential search committee shall solicit appropriate candidates to lead Calvin College as its President and chief executive officer. Following extensive consultation with qualified candidates and a thorough investigation into the gifts, educational background, and experience of the most highly qualified persons for this position, the committee shall present the candidate(s) of choice to the trustees at its full Board meeting."

The search committee's goal is to have a presidential recommendation for the board by their February 2012 meeting, with final approval at the SYNOD meeting in June 2012.

Through Friday, June 17, anyone associated with the college is encouraged to take an extensive survey, which will help the search committee to set benchmarks for the presidential position.
