Calvin College has chosen Rick Treur '93 as the new director of Calvin's Annual Fund-a fund supported by thousands of donors, which backs the school's highest priorities, supporting students and programs across campus.

Treur returns to Calvin after working for Congressman Vern Ehlers in a variety of roles for the past 18 years. Treur represented Ehlers at community events and served as a liaison for constituents, business leaders, non-profit executives and community groups. He led six re-election campaigns for Congressman Ehlers, developing fundraising plans and cultivating major donor recognition programs.

Treur says he's excited to return to his alma mater where he can use his skills, talents and connections in new and productive ways.

"I'm excited about this opportunity," said Treur. "I got a lot out of my Calvin education. I'm looking forward to giving something back in this new position and to be able to connect with other alums and supporters of Calvin College through this new job."

Treur is well-known in both the Calvin and Grand Rapids community. He's the president and founder of River City Improv, west Michigan's longest-running improvisation team, which performs 70 shows across North America each year. He is also a former board member of the Calvin Alumni Association and is active in the Grand Rapids Alumni chapter.

Treur is also involved with the Grand Rapids Community Foundation, the Pine Rest Foundation and The Rapid's Streetcar Committee. He also recently participated in Laughfest-a fundraiser for Gilda's Club.

Calvin vice president for advancement Ken Erffmeyer says that Calvin continually looks to invest in ways that connect the college with the broader community. He says the addition of Treur will only enhance those efforts.

"We are blessed to have Rick become part of the advancement division at Calvin," said Erffmeyer. "He brings with him a wealth of experience and talent. His community connections, creativity, and business acumen will serve Calvin well."

Treur will begin his new post at Calvin on May 2, 2011.
