In 1926, three years after graduating from Calvin College, Johanna Timmer
became the college's first female faculty member. In 1939, Marian Schooland
became the first female full-time professor.
In addition to a handful of women's history month events planned for the month
of March (see full schedule below), the Calvin News and Stories team is
remembering the milestones for women at the college during the month of March

The current article features the first female faculty member. Future articles
will highlight Calvin's first woman coach, first woman grad and the woman who
has had the longest career at Calvin.

Remaining events for Women’s History Month, include:
A free screening of "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday,
March 9, at the Ladies Literary Club.
Author Carol Adams will give a lecture: "The Sexual Politics of Meat: a
20-Year Retrospective," at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, at the Covenant
Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
Kristin Du Mez, assistant professor of history at Calvin, will give a lecture:
"Masculinity and Modern American Evangelicalism" at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday,
March 17, at the Covenant Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.
