On Friday, May 6, 2011, Calvin College will host the Chick-Fil-A Leadercast, a one-day leadership event featuring world-renowned speakers addressing significant leadership issues.
Speakers for the event, which is themed "Voices of Change," include the following: nationally-syndicated radio personality Dave Ramsey, leadership expert John C. Maxwell, Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts and entrepreneur and best-selling author Seth Godin, to name a few.
The Leadercast is one of the first major endeavors of Calvin's Center for Innovation in Business (CCIB), which is making its "grand opening" this Spring. The new center has three main goals: to foster educational excellence, promote experiential learning and engage with broader business communities.
"Hosting this type of leadership event plays right into the mission of the center," said Bob Eames, director of the CCIB. "We want to engage and learn from the wisdom and experiences of the world's best leaders. This event allows us to engage the business community and our students in a powerful learning experience designed to help them all develop their leadership 'voice.'"
Eames hopes the center will allow for better connections and increased synergies between faculty, students and the business community, and will bring about more awareness and support for Calvin's business program.
The Center's first initiatives include support for the development of a new global economy course, which ties into new interims for students in China, Russia, Brazil and India. The Center also recently hosted a lecture by Jeff Van Duzer, dean of the school of business and economics at Seattle Pacific University, on his new book "Why Business Matters to God (and what still needs to be fixed)."
