Summary: Calvin College will recognize 60 honors students at the school's 2010 honors graduation held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, in Calvin's Chapel.

Emma Slager will be one of the 60 Calvin students to have a golden medallion hung around her neck at the 56th-annual Honors Convocation. Slager, who honored in history, majored in geography and minored in gender studies, will be the student speaker for the event.

Biology professor Curt Blankespoor will speak on behalf of the faculty.

During her time at Calvin, Slager was co-editor of the "Chimes" student newspaper, which in 2007-2008 received 11 Michigan Press Association (MPA) awards, including a first-place award for the paper's special "Green Issue." She also worked on a research project gathering the oral histories of those involved in the discussion regarding women in leadership in the Christian Reformed Church. Slager was also instrumental in planting Calvin's first community garden. For the full story and a picture of Emma, visit www.calvin.edu/news/2009-10/community-garden

In addition to the 60 honors students, a total of 170 seniors will be recognized on Wednesday night for being on every dean's list during their years at Calvin.
