Calvin College's multicultural student development office (MSDO) is sponsoring a week of events October 4-9 that will challenge students to think about the stereotypes and assumptions that contribute to racism in today's society.
"We try to spark a lifelong dialogue for our students, so that the process doesn't end when Unlearn Week ends," said Jacque Rhodes, Calvin's assistant dean for multicultural student development.
Unlearn Week, now in its ninth year, includes lectures, panel discussions, films and chapels. The Obama Administration, cross-racial adoption and the Asian experience are a few of the key topics that will be discussed throughout the week.
