Summary: On September 29 at a Calvin Around Town event, viewers will hear from ArtPrize founder Rick DeVos, interact with Calvin alumni artists, have an opportunity to register to vote and attend a reception at a downtown art venue.

Calvin College is providing a unique opportunity to experience ArtPrize, Grand Rapids international art competition. On September 29 Calvin alumni and friends are invited downtown to two ArtPrize sites hosting the work of several Calvin alumni artists.

The Calvin Around Town event begins at the Ladies Literary Club with a special presentation from ArtPrize founder and '04 Calvin alumnus Rick DeVos. Following the talk, guests will explore the work of a number of Calvin artists at (106) South Division, Calvin's downtown gallery and at Monroe Community Church.

Calvin event coordinator Donna Joyce has coordinated dozens of Calvin Around Town events in the Grand Rapids area, but she says this one definitely stands out.

"So many of them [Calvin Around Town events] are built around brick and mortar," Joyce said. "This event stands out because of the creativity of the people involved: the alumni artists, the faculty and the ArtPrize staff are all working together to make this a memorable evening."

Guests will also be shown how to register to vote and have an opportunity to do so at on-site computer kiosks. Receptions will be held at both downtown galleries.
