November 13, 2007 == MEDIA ADVISORY
Summary: Calvin College will host a distinguished visitor from Kenya on Thursday, November 15 for a talk on "Privatization and the Role of Small Business in Kenya."
Joseph Nyaga, a member of the Kenyan parliament, will speak at 3:30 p.m. on November 15 in the multipurpose room of the Chapel on Calvin's campus.
Nyaga is currently a Minister of Parliament for the Gachoka District and a member of the Orange Democratic Movement, the party widely predicted to take power in the December national elections in Kenya.
Prior to his current government service, he held positions as the managing director of Kenya Airways, Ambassador to Belgium, and vice president of the First National Bank of Chicago in London.
He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Nairobi University and an MBA in finance and management from Northwestern University.
Nyaga is coming to Calvin because of his friendship with Calvin professor Aba Mpesha of the college's business department, and through the efforts of local businessman Dan Orao.
Mpesha notes that Nyaga has gained a reputation for being scrupulously honest in a country where corruption is an ongoing scourge.
