October 28, 2005 == MEDIA ADVISORY
For the 11th consecutive year Calvin College will offer a safe and fun
Halloween alternative on October 31. And local food pantries will also
benefit.
The Light in the Night celebration at Calvin will be held from 6 to 8:30 pm on
Halloween evening at the Calvin apartments, home to many of the college's
upperclass students.
There local children will find a variety of carnival activities and
trick-or-treating in each of Calvin's octet of on-campus apartment buildings.
Admission is one canned good with all proceeds going to local food banks.
The candy that is given out at Calvin comes from donations that Calvin faculty
and staff make in the weeks leading up to Halloween.
"It's a campus-wide effort," says Calvin's Abby Norman, who coordinates the
program. "Students go all out to decorate their apartments and plan games,
Calvin employees generously donate candy. It's a great event."
Last year the college entertained over 700 area kids during the event.
