January 14, 2005 == MEDIA ADVISORY

Calvin students are mounting an on-campus relief effort to assist both
short-term tsunami relief efforts in Southeast Asia as well as longer-term
relief efforts in the Darfur region of Sudan (the Calvin campus has been made
aware of Sudan in recent years through the efforts of a Calvin graduate named
Ryan Reed who has worked in Africa as a documentary photojournalist).

Student organizers say that "Beneath the Waves" is intended to support the
idea that "good relief work requires so much more than a one-time donation."

So, on Monday, January 17 there will be a campus-wide "garage sale" called
"One Man's Trash is Another Man's Treasure."

Students can donate items between 10 am and 4 pm at the Commons Annex Lecture
Hall.

Then they can come back that same day between 5 pm and 10 pm and buy what
their colleagues have given away!

All proceeds will go to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and
International Aid.

Also, from Monday, January 17 to Friday, January 22 there will be a table set
up at Johnny's (the on-campus coffee shop) for the collection of donations.
That table will be staffed each day from 11 am to 12:15 pm and from 1:45 pm to
2:45 pm. Once again those donations will go to support the work of CRWRC and
International Aid.
