November 4, 2004 == MEDIA ADVISORY

The Calvin Academy for Lifelong Learning (CALL) will host a special Veteran's
Day event on Thursday, November 11.

"Personal Memories of World War II Combat Veterans" will be presented in the
Calvin College Chapel Undercroft from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m.

Gordon Van Wylen, former president of Hope College and author of "Encounter At
Sea," will describe sea duty in a submarine. And Bernard Link, former
president of the Grand Rapids Teachers Credit Union, will describe the war in
the Pacific from the perspective of a marine who fought in one of the bloodiest
battles of WW II - Iwo Jima.

The event is free and open to all.

CALL is a Learning in Retirement Institute. With the cooperation of the
Elderhostel Network, Calvin College established this program in 1996 for
retired and semi-retired persons (minimum age, 50) who live within commuting
distance of the college.

Each semester the CALL board plans courses, lectures, field trips and more for
its steadily increasing membership.
