Hi,
You may have seen a wire service story today about the resignation of Northwest Airlines chief executive Richard Anderson who left to take a top job at health care insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc.
AP noted that the board of directors of Northwest's parent, Northwest Airlines Corp., elected Northwest president Doug Steenland to the additional position of CEO, effective immediately.
Steenland is a 1973 graduate of Calvin College and a member of Calvin's Midwest Regional Council.
Council members are invited by the president of the college and the chair of the Board of Trustees to serve as advisors to Calvin * providing counsel and expertise to Calvin's administration. The members convene on campus twice each academic year to review departments, programs and special activities. They also serve as ambassadors * promoting the college and its mission within their home region.
Steenland told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that employees, investors and customers will see no major change in overall direction zt Northwest.
"The airline strategy is set. There's no need to rethink it," Steenland said.
Steenland, 53, joined Northwest in 1991 as vice president, deputy general counsel.
