Calvin College will host a lecture next week called Forgetful But Not
Forgotten: A Christian Perspective on Dementia, Memory, and Unlimited Love.
The talk will be on Wednesday, July 7 at 7:30pm in Gezon Auditorium at Calvin
and is free and open to all.

It will be given by Dr. Stephen G. Post, a professor at the Center for
Biomedical Ethics at the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.
He's also President of the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love.

See http://www.unlimitedloveinstitute.org/

Post is internationally recognized for his work with people with dementia and
their caregivers. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Recognition
from the National Alzheimer's Association (1998), the author of the highly
influential book The Moral Challenge of Alzheimer Disease: Ethical Issues from
Diagnosis to Dying and has addressed the theology and ethics of dementia on ABC
Nightline, the BBC World News Easter Special, and Talk of the Nation.

Post says: "As life expectancy rises, dementia becomes more prevalent. An
estimated five million Americans have probable Alzheimer's disease and the
number is escalating rapidly. What unique perspectives does Christian thought
offer for those who are at risk for dementia, who suffer from it, and who care
for even the most deeply forgetful?"

Post is currently leading a three-week seminar at Calvin called "Works of
Love: Scientific and Theological Perspectives on Altruism" as part of Calvin's
Seminars in Christian Scholarship program (which seeks to promote a strong
Christian voice in the academy by addressing issues of current debate within
various disciplines from the perspective of a deep Christian commitment and
encouraging the production of first-order scholarship).

The goal of the current Post seminar is to provide an opportunity for
theologians, philosophers and scientists in all areas to better understand
human capacities for generous behavior grounded in other-regarding love and to
consider these capacities in the light of divine love and spiritual
transformation.
