A higher education veteran has been chosen to be the new director of human
resources for Calvin College.
Todd Hubers is a Calvin graduate with a master of science in higher education
and student affairs from Indiana University. He worked from 1987 to 1994 at
Indiana University and then the University of Michigan in the areas of
scholarships and financial aid before returning to Calvin in 1994 as associate
registrar. Since his return to Calvin he has held four different posts, moving
from the registrar's office to become Calvin's first-ever director of
enrollment research. He then switched to the information technology side of
the college to become director of information systems. And in 2002 he added
associate to the president to his duties.
Hubers says the breadth of his experiences both at Calvin and previously at
Indiana and Michigan should serve him well in his new duties in human
resources.
"I've had a chance to see the college from many different angles," Hubers
says, "and I think that will be a benefit to me as I move into human resources.
I've also had now 16 years of professional experience in higher education
administration, experience that will transfer well, I believe, to HR."
As director of information systems, Hubers helped determe technology
directions for the college and helped departments across the college use
technology to provide improved service. As associate to the president he
helped Gaylen Byker with faculty governance, including managing the committee
assignment and faculty senate election process, and also served as secretary
for the President's Cabinet as well as the planning and priorities committee
and the committee on governance.
Away from Calvin, Hubers has been active in a number of different
organizations. He was president of the Oakdale Christian School board for
three years and is a graduate of a local Institute for Healing Racism.
