Another successful Entrada program will end officially on July 17 with an
    emotional graduation ceremony.

That day, beginning at 11 a.m. in Gezon Auditorium on Calvin's campus, 52
ethnic minority high school students from across the country, plus Canada, will
complete their four-week Entrada experience. Graduation will mark the end of a
month-long stay at Calvin that will have seen the students take a regular
Calvin summer school class, live in the residence halls, eat in the dining
halls and grow both personally and as a group.

Entrada director Rhae-Ann Booker says the graduation ceremony, which will be
well-attended by family, friends and siblings, marks an important moment in the
lives of the high school students. It will be a time, she says, for smiles,
tears and laughter - for the students, for the Calvin staff members who run
Entrada and for the Calvin professors who taught the summer school classes the
    Entrada students took.

Booker says the Entrada experience gives students a good look at what college
life entails and what it takes to succeed in college. "It also gives them a
taste," she says, "of what Calvin's unique brand of Christian education is all
    about."

All students accepted into the Entrada Scholars Program receive a full
scholarship valued at more than $2,500. This scholarship covers the cost of
Entrada, including tuition, room and board, books, supplies and activities.
Additionally, scholars who come to Calvin following high school completion
receive a $1,000 Entrada grant for up to five years.

Since its inception in 1991 over 350 students have attended Entrada. About 42
percent of those have gone on to Calvin after graduating from high school. Most
of the other Entrada graduates also have pursued higher education, going on to
attend a variety of local, state and national colleges and universities.
