Dan Rinzema, a Calvin College junior, is one of five winners of a scholarship
from the West Michigan Chapter of Financial Executives International.

The Grand Rapids native and Unity Christian graduate earned a $1,000 award
from the local chapter, after being nominated this spring by Calvin business
professor Robert Medema, joining students from Grand Valley, Western Michigan
    and Central Michigan universities.

"It's heartening that Dan won this award," says Medema. "It shows that Calvin
can and does provide an excellent education in a variety of professional
disciplines, including finance, in addition to providing an excellent liberal
    arts education."

The Western Michigan Chapter of FEI provided five scholarships of $1,000 each
this year to local students. The criteria for the award include academic
performance, relevant work experience and other outside activities.

Rinzema, who will graduate Calvin in May 2004 with a bachelor of science in
    business degree, fits the bill.

He has a 3.9 grade point average at Calvin and for the last four years has
worked at Datacomp in Grand Rapids, working on marketing projects, quality
control, web-based reimbursements and on-line ordering systems. In fact, he
designed, implemented and evaluated an on-line ordering system that reduced
overall supply costs by 30 percent.

He has been a tutor at Calvin this school year and also works locally as a
security guard, a post he has held for almost two years. On top of all that he
was a member of the Calvin track and field team.

"Just reading his resume makes me tired," says Medema with a chuckle.
"Seriously, Dan is a highly motivated and capable young man. I am confident he
has the intelligence, energy and discipline to succeed in whatever he decides
    to do."

Rinzema plans to participate in The Chicago Semester next year, a program
sponsored by Calvin and five other colleges. The program challenges students
to integrate their personal, professional and public lives through urban
exposure, academic seminars and a wide range of internships. After that
program he will stay in Chicago to pursue an MBA at the University of Chicago.
