The final pinning ceremony for the combined Hope-Calvin Nursing Program will
be Saturday, May 17 at 4 p.m. in the Calvin Fine Arts Center. After this year
both Calvin and Hope colleges will have their own nursing programs.

This year marks the 19th such ceremony in the history of the Hope-Calvin
Nursing Program. It will include a brief address by Calvin nursing professor
Mary Flikkema and, of course, the actual pinning ceremony, where each
soon-to-be graduate walks across the Fine Arts Center stage to receive a
nursing pin from the department chairperson. Families of the graduates come
out in full force for the event, which includes music, flowers and refreshments
    outside afterwards.

Calvin professors note the market right now for nurses is red-hot. This
year's graduates, they say, will have no problem finding jobs.

The first Calvin-only class of nursing students will graduate in spring 2004.
Hope's program also will see its first graduates next spring.
