Calvin College has a 2002-2003 enrollment of 4,330 students, its third-highest
ever and the highest since 1988. That 4,330 figure also marks an increase of 63
students, or 1.5%, from last year.

    The 4,330 number includes 4,074 full-time students and 256 part-time students
for a traditional undergraduate full-time equivalent of 4,098.

Calvin vice president Tom McWhertor says the large enrollment is due to a
    number of factors, including:

    *a relatively large incoming class
    *heathy numbers of transfer students
*superb retention rates for last year's first-year, sophomore and junior
    classes

Calvin enrollment research director Tom VanEck, the school's chief numbers
cruncher, notes that this year's student body includes 2,452 women (56.6%) and
1,878 men (43.4%). There are 2,134 CRC students (49.3%), down slightly from the
year before. Northern neighbour Canada has 185 students at Calvin (4.3%), down
a smidge from a year ago, while 182 students, the same number as last year, have
international citizenship (4.2%). And 173 students (4.0%) are U.S. ethnic
minority students, down slightly from 4.3% in 2001-2002. And the great state of
Michigan is home to 2,358 Calvin students (54.5%).

Finally, the entering first-year class numbers 1,049 students, up a little from
1,031 a year ago. That first-year class largely mirrors the overall student
body. It is 55.3% female, 51.0% CRC, 52.3% Michigan and 3.7 percent U.S. ethnic
    minority.
