Calvin to Host Judicial Candidate Debate

    September 13, 2002 == FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Calvin College will host a judicial candidate debate on Thursday, October 3
    from 7 to 9 p.m. in its new Prince Conference Center on campus. The debate will
    feature the four remaining candidates for two new seats on Kent County's Circuit
    Court: Judy Baxter, Helen Brinkman, James Redford and Daniel Zemaitis.

    Panelists will be Judges Patricia Gardner and Dennis Kolenda and attorney Bruce
    Neckers, president of the State Bar Association. Peter Ross of WZZM TV and host
    of West Michigan Week on WGVU TV will moderate.

    The debate is being sponsored by the Sociology, Social Work and Criminal
    Justice department at Calvin through funds from the school's Hynes Foundation
    (named for Calvin alum Garritt Hynes).

    The format will include prepared questions from the panelists plus questions
    from Calvin students and the general public. Questions for consideration can be
    submitted to judicial-debate@calvin.edu by September 27, 2002.
