    July 31, 2002 == FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Calvin College has received a number of awards from a variety of different
    sources in recent weeks.

Calvin communication professor William Romanowski received a Gold Medallion
award from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association for his book on
religion and culture called "Eyes Wide Open." Romanowski's book was one of five
finalists in the category of "Christianity and Society." The finalists were
selected in each of 20 categories by a panel of primarily Christian retailers.
The finalists underwent a second round of judging by Christian industry leaders,
including editors, book reviewers, theologians and Christian retailers. The
book is published by Grand Rapids-based publisher Brazos Press, part of Baker.

Also, Calvin's Crossing, the pedestrian overcrossing that bridges the Calvin
campus as it crosses over the East Beltline, has won an Award of Excellence in
the category of Special Construction from the Associated Builders & Contractors
    (ABC) of West Michigan.

Finally, the Calvin College Development Office has been honored by the Council
for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) as a winner of a Circle of
Excellence in Educational Fund Raising award. The awards are part of the annual
CASE - Wealth ID Awards for Educational Fund Raising. And Calvin was one of four
schools saluted as a best performer in the CASE category of Private
Comprehensive Institutions. The college and university awards are judged
blindly with respect to both institution name and geography.
