WOMEN'S TENNIS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Anna Asfour claimed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week for women's tennis title on Monday for matches through Feb. 18. Asfour was awarded the honor for her performance against Aquinas on Friday. She picked up two points for the Knights in a close 5-4 victory over Aquinas.
"Anna has been a very consistent player for us," said head coach Kevin Van Haitsma. "Her level of play continues to climb. Anna has worked very hard on her game and it shows in matches. Anna helped us get a big win with Lark Foote at No. 2 doubles. She also had a nice win over a tough player in singles, helping us beat Aquinas, 5-4. It's a nice honor for Anna to be recognized for her hard work."
A sophomore from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Asfour is claiming the title for the first time in her career.
With senior Lark Foote, the duo came from behind to win at No. 2 doubles. Trailing 5-6, the team rallied to win 8-6, to give the Knights a crucial point.
Asfour also recorded a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Haley Kuppler at No. 4 singles.
Asfour and the Knights return to action on Friday at Elmhurst.
