Calvin Athletes Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors;
Women's Soccer Falls at Olivet - To Face Hope in MIAA Tournament Semifinals;
Men's Basketball Drops Exhibition Game to Davenport

VOLLEYBALL

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Jenna Lodewyk was named the MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball on Monday afternoon.
"Jenna had an outstanding week," said Calvin volleyball head coach Dr. Amber Warners. "She played well all around, including being an effective offensive player."
A senior from Villa Park, Illinois, Lodewyk is being named the Specialty Player of the Week for the fourth time in 2017 and the ninth time in her career.
Last week, Lodewyk averaged 10.44 assists-per-set and had 94 assists for the week. She finished the week with one service ace, 23 digs and eight blocks. Lodewyk recorded 19 kills last week, with a .472 hitting percentage.
Against Hope, she recorded 28 assists
Lodewyk had a hitting percentage of .692 at Albion and finished with 36 assists.
She then closed the week with 30 assists and five blocks against Trine.
Lodewyk and the Knights return to action on Friday at the MIAA Tournament Semifinals against Albion.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

For the fourth time in his collegiate career and for the second time this fall, Calvin College senior Mark DeJong has been selected as the MIAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, DeJong was the top finisher at Saturday's MIAA Championships with an 8K course time of 24:15.5.
DeJong won the race by a six-second margin and helped power the 15th-ranked Knights to a first place team score of 22 points as the Knights finished 29 points clear of second place Albion.
DeJong led a Calvin surge that claimed seven of the top nine individual spots at Saturday's race in Adrian, Michigan. DeJong was part of a Calvin team that claimed its 31st consecutive MIAA title.
After Saturday's competition, he was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Runner and earned a spot on the All-MIAA first team.
MEN'S SWIMMING

Calvin College freshman Julian Iturbe has been named the MIAA's Men's Swimmer of the Week.

A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Iturbe had a standout evening at the MIAA Relays last Friday. A graduate of Colegio Emil Friedman High School, Iturbe was a part of five first place finishes in the competition on Friday. All five relays posted MIAA Relays record times.
Iturbe was the anchor leg on Calvin's winning 200 backstroke relay in an MIAA record time of 1:36.52.
He also was the anchor on Calvin's 500 progressive relay team that clocked in with an MIAA Relays record time of 4:11.75.
In the 1500 freestyle relay, he was the second of a three-leg relay that produced an MIAA Relays record time of 14:52.55.
He was again the anchor in Calvin's winning 4x100 individual medley relay that recorded an MIAA Relays record time of 3:39.49.
Iturbe was also a part of Calvin's 200 freestyle relay that came in with an MIAA Relays record time of 1:26.22.
 MEN'S DIVING

Calvin College freshman Alex Bergsma has been named the MIAA Men's Diver of the Week.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Bergsma had a strong start to his collegiate career last Friday at the MIAA Relays held at the Venema Aquatic Center.
Competing in the synchronized diving competition, Bergsma teamed up with Hope's Kyle Weck to take second on the one-meter board with a score of 194.10.
He teamed up with Weck again on the three-meter board for a fifth place score of 185.95.
Bergsma is scheduled to compete again this Friday and Saturday when the Knights host a four-team quadrangular with Ohio Northern, Carthage and Albion at the Venema Aquatic Center.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Olivet 2, Calvin 1

OLIVET, Mich. - The Calvin women's soccer regular season ended on a cold Monday afternoon at Olivet. The Comets walked away from the rain and snow with a 2-1 victory. The Knights now open the postseason on Thursday at Hope in the MIAA Tournament.
Olivet took the lead in the 37th minute with a goal from Maya Prewitt.
Junior Bekah Maguire (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) tied the match with 47 seconds left in the first half. Maguire headed the ball in a pile right in front of the net from a pass from junior Kali Mouw (Avon, N.Y./Avon Central).
The Comets broke the tie in the 59th minute with the game-winning goal from Emma Essen.
The Knights had chances in the second half, but were unable to capitalize.
Freshman Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) posted four saves on Monday.
Calvin's game at Hope on Thursday is set to begin at 7 p.m.. The highest seed remaining will host the championship match on Saturday. Olivet will host Adrian in the other semifinal match.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Davenport 68, Calvin 49

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Calvin men's basketball team took on Davenport University in an exhibition game Monday night at DeVos Fieldhouse on the campus of Hope College. The game was part of a charity exhibition doubleheader to benefit Red Cross hurricane relief efforts. Host Hope College took on Grand Valley State in the second game.

In the opener, Davenport defeated Calvin 68-49. The Division II Panthers led 40-21 at halftime, using a 12-0 run to build a double-digit lead.
Calvin whittled the Davenport lead down to 16 points in the second half but got no closer.
Calvin was led in scoring by senior Austin Bykerk (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) with 13 points. Junior Jason Walter (Coloma, Mich./Lake Michigan Community College) had nine points with junior Austin Bykerk (Jenison, Mich./Unity Christian HS) adding seven points and seven boards.
Davenport which is in its first year as a member of the GLIAC was led in scoring by Nick Malonga with 14 points.
Calvin will travel to Trinity Christian College on Saturday for a 5 p.m. exhibition game in Palos Heights, Illinois.
