CALVIN KNIGHT WEEKEND SPORTS ROUNDUP FOR SEPTEMBER 22, 2017

WOMEN'S GOLF

MARSHALL, Mich. - The Calvin women's golf team battled through heat and a weather delay on Thursday to finish sixth at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet Thursday afternoon at the Medalist Golf Club.
Playing in temperatures that soared into the mid-90s with a heat index over 100, Calvin posted a team score of 364 strokes, just two stroke back of fifth place Trine.
The MIAA Jamboree is the first of four scheduled jamborees this fall.
Thursday's competition was delayed by a thunderstorm that swept through Marshall with just a few holes left to play but was completed shortly before dusk.
Junior Nicole VanderYacht (Kentwood, Mich./South Christian HS) had Calvin's top score on Thursday with a round of 87 to tie for 12th place individually.
Sophomore Jessica Zylstra (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) and freshman Linnea McDonnough (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater HS) both had rounds of 90 to tie for 20th place individually.
Senior Gen Best (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS) had a 97 and junior Katy Hamilton (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) a 101 to round out Calvin's finishers.
Saint Mary's took first place in the team standings with a score of 328. Megan Klintworth of Hope was the tournament medalist with a 76.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday, competing at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine University at 1:30 p.m. at the Zollner Golf Club.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Wheaton 5, Calvin 0

WHEATON, Ill. - Hours after defeating Trine on Tuesday, 3-0, the Calvin women's soccer team fell on a hot Wednesday afternoon at Wheaton, 5-0. Calvin is now 7-2 on the season.
The Thunder struck first in the 15th minute when the Thunder got past the Calvin defense and a chip over the keeper.
Wheaton added another goal in the 29th minute and struck again two minutes later.
The Thunder led at halftime 3-0 and out-shot the Knights in the first half, 11-1.
With 38 minutes left in the match, The Thunder scored from three yards out for the fourth goal of the game.
The final Wheaton goal was scored in the final two minutes of play.
Freshman Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) recorded three saves.
Freshman Jessica Paulson (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian), senior Anica Pausma (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Christian), and freshman Elizabeth Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich./Northpointe Christian) all recorded a shot on Wednesday.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The Calvin men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the MIAA Jamboree Saturday morning at the West Ottawa Golf Club with Hope College serving as host. The men's 8K race is set to begin at 10 a.m. with the women's 6K race set to follow at 11 a.m.
The Calvin women's cross country team is ranked 11th nationally while the Calvin men's cross country team is ranked 13th.

VOLLEYBALL

The sixth-ranked Calvin women's volleyball team will travel to 20th-ranked Hope on Saturday for a 5 p.m. first place showdown in the MIAA at DeVos Fieldhouse.

MEN'S SOCCER

The second-ranked Calvin men's soccer team will travel to Alma on Saturday for a conference match slated to start at 2:30 p.m. The Knights enter Saturday's match with an overall record of 7-0-0 and a conference record of 3-0-0. Saturday's game will feature a rematch of the 2016 MIAA Tournament finals.
