MEN'S SOCCER
Calvin 3, Case Western Reserve 0

CLEVELAND, Oh. - The No. 2 ranked Calvin men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the young season with a 3-0 victory over Case Western Reserve Friday evening at DiSanto Field.

Calvin (3-0-0) struck for three second half goals including the go-ahead tally just 4:46 into the second half on a strike by sophomore Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) off a well-executed pull-back pass from junior teammate Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS).

The same duo hooked up for Calvin's second goal but with Olson feeding Witte this time around. The goal came in the 64th minute after the Knights were awarded a free kick just outside the left wing of the Case Western Reserve box. Olson sent the free kick to the right side of the penalty area with Witte leaping high to head in his second goal of the season.

Junior Lucas Albrecht (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) provided the signature moment of the game with a wonder strike goal from 30 yards out that rocketed into the back of the net to close out the scoring.
"It was a good team result on the road," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "I was really proud of the second half. I was proud of the way we remained committed and disciplined to the way we wanted to play. Case (Western Reserve) is a really good team that is exceptionally well coached. I would also like to extend special thanks to the members of Knight Nation that made the trip to support us. They were fantastic and we appreciate their support."

Case Western Reserve (1-1-1) outshot Calvin 13-12 but the Knights held an 8-6 shots at goal advantage in the second half.

Senior Nate Van Ryn (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) had a stellar evening in goal, collecting five saves against a speedy Case Western Reserve attack to post his second clean sheet of the season.

Calvin remains in Ohio and will travel to Oberlin College on Saturday in a game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
