CALVIN COLLEGE C CLUB NEWS
The Calvin College C Club has announced that Chris Holstege is the 2017 recipient of the Calvin Knight of Distinction Award. Holstege is a 1988 Calvin College graduate and has gone on to a distinguished career in the field of toxicology. As a Calvin student, Holstege was an all-conference track and field athlete. WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Calvin 16, Hope 4

In a meeting of unbeaten teams Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field, Calvin defeated rival Hope 16-4 to grab sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings. The Knights are now 6-0 in MIAA play heading into the final week of the MIAA regular season.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Adrian 12, Calvin 10

The Calvin men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Night on Saturday in a conference matchup against Adrian at Grand Rapids Christian High School. The visiting Bulldogs prevailed 12-10 in a hard-fought matchup.

MEN'S TENNIS
Calvin 5, Adrian 4

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Calvin men's tennis team clinched third place in the MIAA standings and the third seed for the upcoming MIAA Tournament with a 5-4 dual match win at Adrian Saturday afternoon. The Knights are now 15-5 overall and finish conference play at 5-2. Calvin will travel to Hope for an MIAA Tournament semifinal match on May 4.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Calvin 9, Trine 0

ANGOLA, Ind. - Calvin rolled to a 9-0 victory at Trine University Saturday afternoon at the Strikwerda Tennis Courts. The Knights are now 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA. The Knights have won six straight matches heading into a pivotal final week of conference action as they travel to Saint Mary's on Wednesday and to Kalamazoo on Saturday.

MEN'S GOLF

CASCADE, Mich. - CASCADE, Mich. - The Calvin men's golf team took second in the opening 18-hole round of the 54-hole MIAA Spring Qualifier Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Watermark Country Club. The 54-hole tournament is being used to determine the MIAA's automatic qualifier to next month's NCAA III Tournament competition.

Kalamazoo 14, Calvin 5

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Calvin split a conference doubleheader at Kalamazoo on Saturday, blanking the Hornets 5-0 in the opener and falling 14-5 in the nightcap. In the opener, Calvin sophomore Anna Gernant (West Des Moines, Ia./Valley HS) tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out 10 Hornet batters to boost her season strikeout total to 207. Gernant is just the second pitcher in Calvin softball history to strike out more than 200 batters in a season.

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The 27th-ranked Calvin men's track and field team took fourth at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University April 21 and 22, posting a final team score of 53 points.
Calvin flourished in the jumps as senior Reitsma Mpindi (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) led a 1-2-3 finish in the long jump. Mpindi took first with a leap of 22-10 while sophomore Lee Barents (Redlands, Ca./Arrowhead Christian HS) was second (21-10 1/4) and freshman Nathan Van Wyhe (Frankfort, Il./Lincoln-Way East HS) was third (21-8 1/4).
Barents also claimed first place in the triple jump, leaping 43-1.
Junior Ethan Valentine (Mason, Oh./William Mason HS) took fourth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 48.23. The time currently ranks 11th on the NCAA III performance list for outdoor track and field.
Calvin also scored in the 1500 meter run as senior Jordan Kramer (Pewaukee, Wisc./Lake Country Lutheran HS) was fourth (3:55.93) and junior Mark DeJong (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) fifth (3:56.24).

In the 400 meter hurdles, freshman Sam Veenstra (North Haledon, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) took seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (56.28) while junior Noah Buteyn (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was eighth (56.34).

Senior Erick Holder (Marian, Ind./Eastbrook HS) was seventh in the javelin (146-9). Sophomore Brendan Van Houten also had a strong weekend, placing 17th in the shot put (45-8), 11th in the discus (149-8) and 12th in the hammer throw (167-7).
Calvin will now prepare to host its own Calvin Invitational April 28 and 29.
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Calvin women's track and field team took seventh at the Al Owens Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University April 21 and 22. The Knights posted a team score of 24 points.
In the 400 meters, junior Anita VanderMeulen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Skyline HS) had a season-best time of 58.93 to take seventh place.
Sophomore Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) took seventh in the 1500 meter run with a season-best time of 4:38.16.
Junior Jenna Dyksen (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne HS) had a strong set of performances in the hurdles, taking 10th in the 400 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:05.88 and placing 10th in the 100 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 15.14. Dyksen also took seventh in the triple jump (35-10) while sophomore Erin Van Lenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was 10th (34-8 1/2).
Freshman Annika Staal (Woodinville, Wash./Bellevue Christian HS) was 12th in the high jump (5-0 1/2).
Freshman Allison Rozell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) was ninth in the long jump (17-2 3/4).
In the throws, junior Bethany Love (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood HS) was fifth (42-2 1/4) while senior Michaela Meckes (Bay City, Mich./Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS) was sixth (40-0).
Meckes added an eighth place throw of 139-7 in the discus while Love was 13th at 128-5.
Rozell took seventh in the javelin with a career-best throw of 124-0 while Staal was seventh with a career-best effor of 107-4.

Calvin will now prepare to host its own Calvin Invitational April 28 and 29.
