CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR FEBRUARY 7, 2017

CALVIN SAAC UPDATE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has raised $1,048 for West Michigan-based non-profit Kids Food Basket. SAAC athletes from Calvin's 21 varsity teams participated in the donation drive.
"Each year our SAAC members engage our athletic department in a service project, and this year our student-athletes were interested in raising money for Kids Food Basket's Sack Supper Program," said Calvin SAAC advisor Becky Hilgert. "Our athletic teams partnered up and solicited donations from students and fans attending athletic events on campus this fall."
Kids' Food Basket empowers the community to attack childhood hunger so young people can learn and live well. The Sack Supper program provides a nutritious, ready-to-eat evening meal to nearly 7,500 children each weeknight in West Michigan. Each dollar raised provides one sack supper.
"Our SAAC members are thrilled to be able to provide 1,048 sack suppers to children in need," said Calvin SAAC student-athlete president Michael Welch. "It was great to see our student-athletes come together for this cause."
NCAA Division III SAAC represents the student-athlete to have a voice on campus. SAAC members offer input on NCAA legislation, identify student-athlete issues and encourage student-athlete community outreach.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

Calvin College junior Jenna Dyksen has been named the MIAA's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

A native of Hawthorne, New Jersey, Dyksen produced several outstanding performances at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic this past Friday night at Aquinas College.

A graduate of Hawthorne High School, Dyksen won the triple jump on Friday night with a career-best leap of 36-7 that places her 29th on the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field performance list. She also placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 9.00 while also tossing the shot put in competition for the first time, tossing the steel ball 24-1 3/4 that was good for 10th place.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
The Calvin women's lacrosse season is set to begin its 2017 campaign next month as the Knights will travel to Kentucky the weekend of March 3rd and 4th for a pair of non-conference games. While in Kentucky, Calvin will face Asbury University March 3 and Georgetown University March 4.
Under the direction of head coach Blake Boehm, Calvin finished 12-6 overall last spring and captured its first-ever MIAA Tournament title while also advancing to the NCAA III Tournament for the first time.
Calvin's 2017 team returns several key returning letterwinners including 2016 first team All-MIAA selections Emily Ceferatti and Amanda Davio along with 2016 second team all-conference picks Kelly Pepper and Madeline Baas.
