Women's Golf Ties for Fifth at MIAA Jamboree;
Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive Weekly Honors From MIAA

WOMEN'S GOLF

MARSHALL, Mich. - The Calvin women's golf team finished the first MIAA Jamboree tied for fifth place. The Knights finished the day tied with Trine at 353 strokes. Hope took first place at 309 strokes.
Junior Emilee McCusker (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) finished in ninth place at 81 strokes.
Sophomore Nicole VanderYacht (Kentwood, Mich./South Christian) recorded a round of 84 to finish tied for 13th place.
Senior Amira Bousaab (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) tallied a round of 89 to finished tied for 28th place.
Tied for 45th place was sophomore Grace Bolt (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and freshman Jessica Zylstra (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) at 99 strokes.
The Knights return to action on Saturday when they travel to Saint Mary's for the second MIAA Jamboree.

VOLLEYBALL

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin volleyball swept the MIAA weekly honors this week. Laura Danhoff was named the Player of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and Jenna Lodewyk was named the Specialty Player of the Week. The two helped propel Calvin to four victories this past week, including victories over No. 5 Juniata and No. 8 Wittenberg.
"I am proud of the way they are both playing and leading the team," said head coach Amber Warners. "Both of them, as well as Kelly Bos, our captains, have put themselves second to the team."
Danhoff a senior from Willard, Ohio, earned Player of the Week honor for the third-straight week and for the sixth time in her career. Danhoff recorded 56 kills last week, including a career-high 20 at Wittenberg on Saturday. She averaged 4.31 kills per set and tallied seven service aces and 10 total blocks. Danhoff notched her 1000th kill of her career this weekend.
Lodewyk, a junior from Villa Park, Illinois, was named Specialty Player of the Week for the first time in 2016 and the fourth time in her career. Lodewyk averaged 10.77 assists-per-set and had 46 assists at No. 8 Wittenberg. She finished the week with seven service aces, including three against No. 5 Juniata. Lodewyk recorded 21 kills last week, with seven against Heidelberg and Wittenberg and averaged 1.92 digs-per-set.
The Knights return to action on Friday when they resume MIAA play against the Kalamazoo Hornets.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

For the fourth time in her collegiate career, Calvin College junior Cassie Vince (Amherst, Oh./Marion L. Steele HS) has been named the MIAA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
This past weekend at the University of Washington Sundodger Invitational, Vince took 12th place individually with a time of 21:23 on the six-kilometer course. She had the second-fastest time of any Division III runner competing in the race.

The performance by Vince helped the 13th-ranked Calvin women's cross country team finish second in the overall team standings with a score of 102 points.

The Calvin women's cross country team returns to action on Saturday when it competes at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Alma College.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

For the second time this year and for the seventh time in his career, Calvin College senior Zac Nowicki (Comstock Park, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) has been named the MIAA Men's Cross Country Runner of the week.

Nowicki took 17th individuall at the University of Washington Sundodger Invitational last Saturday, clocking in with a time of 24:54 on the eight-kilometer course. He had the second-fastest time of any Division III runner competing int he race.

The performance by Nowicki helped the 17th-ranked Calvin men's cross country team finish sixth in the overall team standings with a score of 154 points.

The Calvin men's cross country team returns to action on Saturday when it competes at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Alma College.

MEN'S SOCCER

Two members of the nationally-ranked Calvin men's soccer team have received MIAA Player of the Week accolades.

Junior Mitch Stark has been named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week while junior Nate Van Ryn has been named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week.

A goalkeeper, Van Ryn (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) posted a pair of shutouts last week as the Knights defeated Adrian 2-0 and Hope 3-0. Van Ryn had one save in the win over Adrian and then came up with four saves in the win over Hope. Van Ryn has a season goals-against-average of 0.68.

Stark (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon HS) had an assist in the win over Adrian and a goal in the win over Hope. He is receiving MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and for the third time in his career.

Ranked ninth nationally, Calvin will host Kalamazoo on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in a key conference matchup at Zuidema Field.
