Cefaratti Named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in Women's Lacrosse;
Cross Country Teams Receive Academic Honors From USTFCCCA
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
For the second time in her career, Calvin College junior Emily Cefaratti has been named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse.
A native of Hindsale, Illinois, Cefaratti scored 12 goals last week in leading Calvin to victories over Thomas More and Transylvania last weekend.
A graduate of Hinsdale Central High School, Cefaratti scored six goals in a 12-4 win at Thomas More last Friday and came back to score six more times in a 14-13 overtime win at Transylvania on Saturday.
Cefaratti scored on 12 of her 18 shot attempts on the weekend for an impressive shooting percentage of .667. She was also credited with five ground balls on the weekend and four draw controls won.
In Saturday's come-from-behind win at Transylvania, she scored four of her six goals in the second half to lead the Knights to the comeback win.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association has named its 2015 All-Academic team and individual recipients in men's cross country and the Calvin men's cross country team has received accolades on both counts.
Led by head coach Brian Diemer, the Calvin men's team posted a team cumulative grade point average this past fall of 3.48. In order to receive the award, teams must post a minimum team GPA of 3.10.
Individually, Calvin had three members of its men's team receive honors. Those three individuals include senior Jeff Meitler (New Berlin, Wisc./Milwaukee Lutheran HS), junior Jordan Kramer (Pewaukee, Wisc./Lake Country Lutheran HS) and sophomore Andrew Philipose (Mount Prospect, IL/John Hersey HS).
Individuals needed to have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 25 percent at their respective NCAA III Regional Championships.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Continuing a streak that began in 1987, the Calvin women's cross country team has once again been named a USTFCCCA All-Academic team recipient. Led by head coach Brian Diemer, the Knights posted a team cumulative grade point average this past fall of 3.59. In order to receive the award, teams must post a minimum team GPA of 3.10.
Individually, Calvin had four members of its women's cross country team receive individual all-academic honors. Individuals needed to have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 25 percent at their respective NCAA III Regional Championships.
The Calvin individuals that received the honor include juniors Lauren Strohbehn (Stillwater, MN/St. Croix Preparatory HS) and Autumn Vonk (Holland/Zeeland West HS), sophomore Kate McLain (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) and freshman Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Ingelmoor HS).
