All-MIAA Teams for Swimming and Diving and Basketball Announced

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Calvin men's swimming and diving team recorded a record 11 All-MIAA selections earlier today. The previous school record was eight, set in 2015. Last weekend the Knights won their third-straight MIAA Championship. Calvin finished with 951.5 points, the highest point total in the history of the men's MIAA Championships.
MITCH SCHRODER
A senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is receiving All-MIAA honors for a second-straight year. Schroder helped the Knights break school records in the 200, 400 and 800 relays this past weekend, winning all three events. He also set the sixth-fastest 100 freestyle in school history at 46.27, taking fourth place. He also finished the 200 freestyle in fifth place at the MIAA Championships, where he holds the fifth-fastest time in school history.
JOHNSON COCHRAN
A senior from Mount Vernon, Ohio, is being named an All-MIAA selection for the fourth-straight year. Cochran won individual titles in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke this past weekend at the MIAA Championships, he holds the school record in both events. He also helped Calvin record victories in the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay. Both relays set both school and MIAA records.
BRANDON MUMA
A senior from Grand Rapids, Michigan, is making his first appearance on the All-MIAA team. Muma earned an individual title in the 200 freestyle, with a winning time of 1:39.94. The Calvin senior recorded the second-fastest 50 freestyle time in school history at 20.90. He was also a part of four relay teams that won MIAA titles and broke school records in the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and in the 800 freestyle relay.
CALEB MEINDERTSMA
Making his four appearance on the All-MIAA team, a senior from Annandale, Virginia, Meindertsma is the four-time MIAA champion in the 1650 freestyle, setting the school record on Saturday at 15:42.35. He was also victorious in the 400 IM, winning with a time of 4:02.47.
BRETT STOUGHTON
A junior from Centerville, Indiana, has claimed All-MIAA honors all three years. Stoughton is the MIAA champion in the 200 butterfly for the third-straight year with a time of 1:51.28, breaking his own school record. He also broke the school record in the 200 IM at 1:52.55.
ELI HOLSTEGE
A junior from Keswick, Virginia, Holstege earned All-MIAA honors for the second-straight year. Holstege recorded the fourth-fastest 50 freestyle time in school history at the MIAA Championships at 21.02. He was also a part of the 200 freestyle relay team that took first place at the MIAA Championships and broke the school record.
TANNER VINCENT
A sophomore from Novi, Michigan, Vincent has earned All-MIAA honors for a second-straight year. He recorded the fifth-fastest 500 freestyle time in school history and finished in fifth place. He also took third place in the 400 IM and fifth place in the 200 butterfly.
SKYLER FISH
A sophomore from Ionia, Michigan, Fish has been named to the All-MIAA team for the second-straight year. He was a part of three records being broken last weekend at the MIAA Championships. He led off the 400 medley relay team that took first and broke the school record. He also broke school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke, taking first place in the 100 backstroke. Fish also took seventh place in the 200 IM.
ANDREW KASPER
A freshman from Batava, Illinois, Kasper is being named to the All-MIAA for the first time in his career. Kasper was a part of three school record performances this past weekend at the MIAA Championships. He was a part of the winning relay teams in the 400 freestyle relay and the 800 freestyle relay, that both broke school records. He set the school record in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 4:30.59. He also took third place in the 200 freestyle, where he recorded the fourth-fastest time in school history.
JARED BRITTON
A freshman from Falls Church, Virginia, Britton is being selected to the All-MIAA team for the first time. Britton anchored four relay teams that broke school records and took first place at the MIAA Championships in the 200 and 400 medley relays and in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. He broke the school record in the 50 freestyle, taking second place. He recorded the second-fastest time in school history in the 100 freestyle, taking third place. Britton also tallied the third fastest time in school history in the 100 butterfly, where he finished in second place.
BEN HOLSTEGE
A freshman from Keswick, Virginia, Holstege is being named to the All-MIAA team for the first time in his career. Holstege was a part of the MIAA champion 200 medley relay team that broke a school record. He recorded the second fastest 100 backstroke time in school history at the MIAA Championships, taking second place. He also took sixth place in the 200 IM and eighth place in the 100 butterfly.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

Six members of the Calvin women's swimming and diving team have received All-MIAA honors. Leading the list are seniors Alayna Gallegos and Megan Schroder who are receiving All-MIAA honors for the second straight year.

Also receiving All-MIAA accolades for the second straight year is sophomore Abby Van Harn. Sophomores Rachel Mattson and Sarah Bradley are receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time as is freshman Anna Serino.

ALAYNA GALLEGOS - A native of Lakeville, Minnesota, and a graduate of Lakeville HS, Gallegos is receiving All-MIAA honors for the second straight year. At the MIAA Championships last week at Calvin's Venema Aquatic Center, Gallegos was a huge producer. At the meet, she placed fourth in the 400 IM (4:45.15) and came back 10 minutes later to place fourth in the 100 butterfly (59.33). She also took third in the 200 butterfly (2:10.83) and swam on Calvin's 400 medley relay team that placed third (3:57.00).

MEGAN SCHRODER -- A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Schroder is receiving All-MIAA honors for the second straight year. At the MIAA Championships, Schroder was everywhere, placing fourth in the 200 backstroke in a school record time of 2:06.32 while placing fifth in the 100 backstroke (59.38) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:55.85). She also swam on Calvin's 800 freestyle relay team that clocked in with a school and MIAA record time of 7:31.21 as well as its 200 freestyle relay team that came in with an MIAA record time of 1:34.24. She also swam on Calvin's 400 freestyle relay that established a new league record time of 3:28.81. In addition, she was a part of Calvin's third place 400 medley relay team.

ABBY VAN HARN -- A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Van Harn is making her second straight appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Championships last week, she churned through the pool to win the 100 freestyle (50.86) and 200 freestyle (1:51.23) while placing second in the 50 freestyle (23.69). Her time in the 100 freestyle was a new MIAA and school record time. She also swam on Calvin's winning 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay teams as well as its third place 400 medley relay squad.

RACHEL MATTSON -- A native of Ann Arbor and a graduate of Ann Arbor Huron High School, Mattson is making her first appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Champoinships, she placed fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.43), fifth in the 100 freestyle (52.85) and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.48). She also swam on Calvin's first place 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams as well as its 200 medley relay team that placed fourth with a time of 1:46.84.

SARAH BRADLEY -- A native of Wheaton, Illinois, Bradley is a graduate of Wheaton North High School. A diver, Bradley took second on the one-meter board (420.30) at the MIAA Championships and fourth on the three-meter board (399.75).

ANNA SERINO -- A native of Pinckney and a graduate of Pinckney High School, Serino also had a busy week at the MIAA Champinshiops, taking third in the 1,650 freestyle (17:38.71) and 200 freestyle (1:53.36) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.19). She was also a part of Calvin's record-setting 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams.

At the MIAA Championships, Calvin captured its 12th consecutive league title, posting a first place team score of 787.5 points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Junior Anna Timmer and sophomore Bre Luurtsema of the Calvin women's basketball team have been named to the All-MIAA first team in women's basketball.

A native of Caledonia and a graduate of South Christian High School, Timmer is the third member of her extended Timmer family to be an All-MIAA athlete at Calvin College.

Her father Jim Timmer Jr. was a first team All-MIAA baseball selection in 1989 and a second team All-MIAA men's basketball choice in 1990. Her grandfather Jim Timmer Sr. was a first team All-MIAA baseball selection in 1962. Her uncle Jeff Timmer was a three-time first team All-MIAA selection in baseball (1993-1995) and a first team All-MIAA selection in men's golf in 1994.

A forward, Anna Timmer has made her mark on the hardcourt this spring, averaging 15.9 points a game in league play that ranked second in the conference scoring race. She also led the league in field goal percentage (.594) and steals-per-game (2.69) and was ranked sixth in rebounding (8.1).

This season, Timmer has been a two-time MIAA Player of the Week.

Also a forward, Luurtsema hails from Holland and is a graduate of Holland Christian High School. In conference games, she averaged 12.0 points and 8.1 rebounds a game, ranking ninth in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding. She also finished second in the MIAA in field goal percentage (.562) and third in steals-per-game (2.25).

On January 11, she was named the MIAA Player of the Week after sinking two free throws in the closing second of overtime to lift Calvin to a 79-77 overtime win at Olivet. In conference play, she notched six double-doubles.

Calvin finished second in the MIAA regular season standings with a 14-2 conference record. The Knights concluded the season with an overall record of 20-6, marking the 16th 20-win campaign in program history.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Calvin College senior Jordan Daley has been named to the All-MIAA first team in men's basketball.

A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Daley is receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time.

A three-year starter, Daley led Calvin in scoring this year with an average of 18.3 points a game while finishing second on the team in rebounding at 6.0 boards per contest.

In conference games, he finished fourth in the MIAA scoring race, averaging 17.6 points per contest. He also finished eighth in rebounding averaging 5.9 points per contest.

Daley had one double-double in league play, a 27-point, 11-rebound effort in 75-68 loss at rival Hope in late January. He later scored a career-high 32 points in a narrow one-point loss to Albion in early February.

During the season he became the 25th player in Calvin men's basketball history to hit the 1,000 point plateau. He now ranks 20th on the Calvin career list with 1,067 points.
