Calvin Track and Field Teams Place Third at Grand Valley State Open
WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Calvin women's track and field team took third place with a team score of 54 points at the Grand Valley State Open Friday night at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Sophomore Kate McLain (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) was one of Calvin's winners, claiming a win in the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:46.44. McLain led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish as junior Hope Gaffner (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) was second (18:46.63) and freshman Maria Kuiper (Zeeland/Holland Christian HS) third in 18:51.56.
Sophomore Jenna Dyksen (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne HS) had a terrific all-around evening, winning the triple jump (34-9 1/2), placing second in the long jump (17-4 1/4) and sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.53).
Dyksen led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish in the triple jump as freshman Erin VanLenten (Hawthorne, NJ/Eastern Christian HS) was second (33-7 1/4) and senior Ayooluwa Ayoola (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) third (32-7).
Senior McKenzie Diemer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) was sixth in the mile run with a time of 5:09.10. Sophomore Bethany Love (Kentwood/East Kentwood HS) was eighth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 38-7.
Calvin is back in action next Friday when it competes at the Mike Lints Open at Grand Valley State.
MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD
ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Calvin men's track and field team took third place with a team score of 57 points at the Grand Valley State Open Friday night at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Calvin's top event was the 5,000 meter run as senior Ethan Anderson (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater Area HS) won the race in a time of 14:50.36 while sophomore Andrew Philipose (Mount Prospect, IL/John Hersey HS) was second (15:06.95).
In the 400 meters, freshman James Jeninga (Brookfield, Wisc./Milwaukee Lutheran HS) was sixth (52.02). In the 800 meters, freshman Luke Peterson (Holland/Holland Christian HS) took fourth (2:01.13). In the 3,000 meters, junior Jordan Kramer (Pewaukee, Wisc./Lake Country Lutheran HS) was third in a time of 8:43.25.
In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Chase Rohrer (Ludington/Ludington HS) was eighth (8.68).
Calvin also had a solid day in the field events as senior Lucas Wolters (Vincennes, Ind./South Knox HS) was second in the pole vault (14-7 1/4), freshman Lee Barents (Redlands, Ca./Arrowhead Christian) fifth in the long jump (20-10) and junior Jeiel Burrell (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) fifth in the triple jump (40-0 1/2).
Calvin is back in action next Friday when it competes at the Mike Lints Open at Grand Valley State.
