CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 15, 2015
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The Calvin men's cross country team has received an at-large berth to the upcoming NCAA III Cross Country Championship. The Knights received word of their entry into the national meet earlier this afternoon from the NCAA committee.
At the Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday, Calvin just missed an automatic berth, finishing a close third behind Wabash and Allegheny with a team total of 122 points.
Calvin will be making its 31st trip to the national championships which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III men's cross country list for national team appearances.
The NCAA III Championships will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winnecone, Wisconsin. The men's 8K race is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. (CT).
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
The Calvin women's cross country team has advanced to the NCAA III Championships next Saturday. The Knights booked their ticket to the national meet by placing second at the Great Lakes Regional meet yesterday with a team score of 124 points. The top two teams at the regional meet receive automatic berths to the NCAA III Championships.
Calvin will be making its 25th trip to the NCAA III Championships which ranks third on the all-time NCAA III women's cross country list for team appearances.
The NCAA III Championships will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winnecone, Wisconsin. The women's 6K race is set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT).
MEN'S SOCCER
The Calvin men's soccer team is headed to an NCAA III Sectional hosted by Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
In addition to Calvin and Kenyon, the sectional will include teams from Franklin and Marshall (Pa.) and Tufts (Ma.).
Host Kenyon (18-1-1) will play defending national champion Tufts University (11-4-3) on Friday at 11 a.m. Following that game, Calvin College (22-0-1) and Franklin & Marshall College (17-3-0) will battle at 1:30 p.m. The winners of those games will then meet at 1 p.m. Saturday for the right to advance to the NCAA Semifinals. All three games will be played at Mavec Field.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
The Calvin women's soccer team is headed to an NCAA III Sectional hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Calvin (20-2-2) will face host Carnegie Mellon (17-1-1) on Friday at a time to be announced. Centre (Ky.) and Thomas More (Ky.) will round out the sectional tournament field. Centre will enter the tournament with an overall record of 19-1-1 while Thomas More is 19-0-2.
Calvin advanced to the sectional round of the NCAA III Tournament by defeating DePauw University 1-0 Saturday in a second round game. The Knights are making their third appearance in the NCAA III Sectional Tournament under current head coach Mark Recker, having done so in both 2006 and 2009.
VOLLEYBALL
The eight-team field scheduled to compete in the 2015 NCAA III Volleyball Finals at Calvin College this week is set.
The eight participating teams that will compete for a national title at Calvin's Van Noord Arena November 19-21 are Carthage College (Wisc.), Randolph-Macon (Ga.), Cal Lutheran, Bowdoin (ME), Bethel University (Mn.), Hendrix College (Ark.), Clarkson University (N.Y.) and Wittenberg University (Oh.).
Thursday quarterfinal pairings will see Carthage (34-7) facing Randolph-Macon (28-7); Clarkson (30-8) meeting Wittenberg (27-2); Hendrix (29-8) taking on Bethel (25-9) and Cal Lutheran (28-5) taking on Bowdoin (26-4).
Times for Thursday's quarterfinal matches will be announced later on Monday.
Semifinal matches are scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (EST).
The NCAA III Championship final is slated for Saturday at 7 p.m.

This week will mark the first time since 1986 that Calvin College has hosted the NCAA III Volleyball Championships.
Calvin is currently in a run of hosting four NCAA III Championship events. Calvin hosted the NCAA III Women's Basketball Championships last March and will do so again in March of 2017. Calvin College will again host the NCAA III Volleyball Championships in November of 2017.
Calvin is hosting all four championship events in conjunction with the West Michigan Sports Commission.
