Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive Weekly Honors From MIAA

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

For the third time in 2015, Lauren Strohbehn of Calvin claimed Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Monday for meets through Oct. 18.
Strohbehn, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., placed fifth overall in a time of 21:23 on the 6K course of the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.
Her time topped the Calvin team for the day and helped the No. 24 Knights place 11th overall out of 45 teams at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational on Saturday.
The weekly honor is the third for Strohbehn this season after also earning the award on Sept. 14 and Sept. 28.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Andrew Philipose of Calvin garnered the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week Award from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) on Monday for meets through Oct. 18.
Philipose, a sophomore from Mount Prospect, Ill., placed 47th overall at the 8K course 6K course of the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis. He crossed the finish line in a time of 25:26.
As the second Knight to cross the finish line, Philipose helped No. 34 Calvin place 11th overall with 291 points in a field of 45 squads at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational.

VOLLEYBALL

For the third time in her career and for the second time this season, Calvin College sophomore setter Jenna Lodewyk has been named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in women's volleyball.

A native of Villa Park, Ill., Lodewyk averaged 10.1 assists-per-set last week as Calvin went 5-0 including 4-0 against nationally-ranked competition.

A graduate of Timothy Christian High School, Lodewyk was also credited with 10 service aces, three block assists and 32 digs while hitting at a .325 clip.

Ranked fifth nationally, Calvin defeated 13th-ranked Hope on Wednesday and then went 4-0 at its own Midwest Invitational this weekend which included victories over #7 Wittenberg, #9 Eastern and #18 Clarkson.

In addition, outside hitter Maggie Kamp has been named the MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week for matches through Oct. 18.
It marks the third time this year that Kamp has been so honored and the ninth time in her collegiate career.
Kamp, a senior from Orland Park, Ill., earned Player of the Week honors after leading the No. 5 Knights to a 5-0 week, including a 4-0 mark against ranked foes. She averaged five kills per set in a 3-0 sweep of No. 13 Hope on Wednesday. Kamp posted double-digit kills in four matches including 19 against No. 7 Wittenberg. She added 12 terminations against No. 18 Clarkson and drilled eight into the floor against No. 9 Eastern to end the week. Kamp finished with 67 kills to average 4.19 per set and added 25 digs, four blocks, three service aces and a pair of assists.

Calvin is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Olivet for a 6:30 p.m. conference match. The Knights are currently in first place in the MIAA standings with an 11-0 league mark.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

For the second time this year, Calvin College senior Taylor TenHarmsel has been named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in women's soccer.

A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, TenHarmsel scored the game-winning goal with 1:36 left in the second overtime Saturday in lifting Calvin to a 1-0 victory at Kalamazoo.

The goal was the second overtime winner of the year for TenHarmsel who previously did so on September 19 in a 1-0 overtime win at Adrian.

A midfielder, TenHarmsel has been a key figure in Calvin's current unbeaten streak of 13 games, scoring six goals along with three assists for a total of 15 points. In addition, she is 2-for-2 this year on penalty kick opportunities.

The Calvin women's soccer team is currently 12-2-1 overall and in first place in the MIAA standings with a 10-0-1 conference record.

The Knights return to action on Wednesday, hosting Adrian at 4 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
