MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin men's track and field team had a successful weekend of performances at a set of last-chance meets.

Freshman Ethan Valentine had one of the top performances of the weekend, clocking in with a career-best time of 48.06 at the Grand Valley State last-chance meet Friday afternoon. His time ranks 19th nationally on the current NCAA III list.

Sophomore Jon Cok also had a big performance at Grand Valley on Friday, taking second in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 45-11 3/4 while sophomore teammate Jeiel Burrell was third with a jump of 42-9 3/4. Junior Lucas Wolters had a season-best vault of 15-5 in the pole vault while sophomore Nathan Marcus was right behind in 14-9.

In addition, junior David Dadzie had a season-best throw of 164-0 in the javelin at the Grand Valley State meet on Friday.

Senior Erik Holstege was sixth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 14.86.

At the North Central College Dr. Keeler Invitational Friday night in Naperville, Calvin's distance crew put in a strong effort. Senior Steven Haagsma had a season-best time of 9:13.37 that currently places him 12th on the national list. Senior Nick McKee also had a career-best time of 10:06.62 in the race.

In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Zac Nowicki had a career-best time of 14:45.53 while senior Stephen Tubergen had a season-best time of 3:58.28 in the 1,500 meters as did senior Josh Ferguson with a time of 4:02.41.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

The Calvin women's track and field team had a successful weekend of performances at a set of last-chance meets.

At the Grand Valley State last-chance meet on Friday, freshman Jenna Dyksen won the triple jump with a career-best leap of 37-1. She was part of a 1-2-3 Calvin sweep as junior Ayoola Ayooluwa was second (35-10 3/4) and sophomore Carissa Weis third (34-4 3/4).

In the high jump, senior Amy Sybesma had a season-best jump of 5-4 1/4. In the 800 meters, freshman Carolin Boss had a career-best time of 2:16.19 that was good for fourth place while senior teammate Mia Rienstra was fifth in 2:17.41.

In the 400 meter hurdles, senior Kelley Tuinenga had a career-best time of 1:04.09 that was good for fifth place while senior Breanna Verkaik was sixth (1:04.74) and junior Kally Verkaik seventh (1:05.20). In the 200 meters, freshman Anita VanderMeulen had a season-best time of 26.69.

At the North Central Dr. Keeler Invitational Friday night, Calvin senior Kate Ardinger had a career-best time of 4:33.99 in the 1,500 meters that places her 20th on the NCAA III list. Sophomore Lauren Strohbehn clocked a time of 17:16.78 in the 5,000 meters while senior Sarah Danner came in at 17:32.63. In the steeplechase, senior Paige McGahan came in with a time of 11:45.30.
