Jordan Brink Named MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week - Calvin/Hope Rivalry Featured in New York Times / Women's Basketball Moves Up to #14 in D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll / Abby VanHarn and Mitch Schroder Receive MIAA Swimmer of the Week Honors

MEN'S BASKETBALL

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin guard Jordan Brink its Player of the Week in men's basketball for games played through January 3.
Brink, a senior from Dyer, Ind. (Illiana Christian HS), averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as the Knights opened MIAA play with a pair of victories. He had 20 points and seven rebounds in a 93-87 victory over Alma, then matched his career-best scoring performance with 29 points, six rebounds and four assists in an 88-64 road win over Hope.
Brink, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and fifth time in his career, shot 56 percent from the field (15 of 27), 58 percent from 3-point range (7 of 12) and 92 percent from the line (12 of 13) in the two wins.
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Adrian for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Calvin women's basketball continues to move up the national rankings. The Knights are ranked 14th in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 poll released earlier today. Calvin was ranked 16th last week and 19th the week before.

The Knights are currently 12-0 overall and 5-0 in the MIAA. Calvin will host Saint Mary's on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.

WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Abby VanHarn its athlete of the week in women's swimming and diving for meets through January 10.
VanHarn, a freshman from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), won all three sprint freestyle events and anchored three winning relays in helping the Knights capture first place at their quadrangular meet.
She won the 50-yard freestyle in :24.94, the 100 freestyle in :54.58 and the 200 free in 2:00.10. She also swam a :24.30 in the 200 freestyle relay, a :53.26 split in the 400 medley relay and a :53.57 split in the 400 freestyle relay.
VanHarn is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Mitch Schroder its athlete of the week in men's swimming and diving for meets through January 10.
Schroder, a junior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), won two individual events and swam on two winning relays as Calvin won its own quadrangular meet. He won the 100-yard freestyle in :47.64 and the 200 free in 1:44.71. He swam a :21.62 split on the leadoff leg of the 200 freestyle relay and swam identical :46.53 anchor leg splits on both the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relays.
Schroder is being honored as Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.
Calvin is back in action on Friday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a dual meet slated to start at 6 p.m.
