Travis Vegter Named Capital One Academic All-American in Men's Soccer;
Broadcast Links for Weekend Contests

MEN'S SOCCER

For the second consecutive year, Calvin College senior Travis Vegter has been named a Capital One Academic All-American in men's soccer. Vegter has been named to the 2014 Division III Capital One Academic All-America second team.

A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Unity Christian High School, Vegter recently concluded a standout four-year career at Calvin on the soccer pitch. This fall he collected 23 goals, 10 assists and 56 points as he ranked highly amongst the NCAA III statistical leaders in goals and points this fall.

He concluded his Calvin career with 67 goals, 26 assists and 160 points. He ranks third on the Calvin career list for goals and points and tied for seventh in assists. His goal total of 23 this fall matched the third-best single-season total in Calvin men's soccer history.

In conference games he finished his career with 46 goals and 110 points to ranked fifth on the MIAA career for goals and fourth in points. He tallied 19 goals in league games this fall which is tied for third on the MIAA single-season list.

During his career, he was a nine-time MIAA Player of the Week including five times this fall. He was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player this fall, earning the award for the second consecutive year. In addition, he was named to the All-MIAA first team for the third straight year.

A year ago he was named a first team Division III All-American by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and D3soccer.com.

A biology major at Calvin, Vegter will graduate next spring and has plans to attend medical school in the future. Last fall, he was also named a Division III All-American Scholar-Athlete by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Calvin has now had its scholar-athletes receive 108 Capital One Academic All-America citations. Calvin's total of 108 ranks in the top-30 all-time amongst All NCAA and NAIA institutions at any level. Calvin also ranks eighth on the all-time NCAA Division III list. In addition, Calvin has recorded 787Capital One Academic All-America citations since 2000 which also ranks 11th for all NCAA and NAIA levels.
