Calvin Fall Sports Athletes Receive Weekly Honors From MIAA
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin's Landon Potts as its Runner of the Week in men's cross country for meets through Oct. 25.
Potts, a junior from Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), finished 53rd for the Knights with a time of 16:27 at the Eastern Michigan 5K Fall Classic. He is being honored as Runner of the Week for the first time in his career.
The nationally-ranked Calvin men's and women's cross country teams will host the MIAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday at the Gainey Athletic Complex.

VOLLEYBALL
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin outside hitter Maggie Kamp its Co-Player of the Week and Calvin libero Elise Biesboer its Co-Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through Oct. 25.
Kamp shares the Player of the Week award with Nya Greenstone of Kalamazoo while Biesboer shares the Specialty Player of the Week honor with Alex Gothard of Kalamazoo.
Kamp, a junior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), slammed 22 kills and added 13 digs and three service aces in leading Calvin to a four-set victory over No. 1-ranked and previously unbeaten Hope to force a tie in the MIAA race. Kamp is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season and sixth time in her career.
Biesboer, a senior from Elmhurst, Ill. (Timothy Christian HS), had a career-high 31 digs to lead Calvin in its four-set victory over top-ranked and previously unbeaten Hope. She is receiving the Specialty Player of the Week honor for the first time in her career.
MEN'S SOCCER
FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin defender Sean Broekhuizen its Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Oct. 25.
Broekhuizen, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), had another solid all-around performance for the week as Calvin clinched its fourth straight outright MIAA championship. On defense, he helped Calvin limit Adrian and Trine to a combined three shots as the Knights shut out the Bulldogs, 6-0, and Thunder, 3-0.
He also scored a goal in each contest. Broekhuizen is being recognized as Player of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.
Ranked seventh nationally, Calvin will close out the regular season with a pair of home games this week, hosting Albion at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Olivet on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
