Men's Golf Fourth at MIAA Jamboree - Slips to Third in Overall League Standings;
Travis Vegter Named MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

MEN'S GOLF

KALAMAZOO - The Calvin men's golf team took fourth place at the fourth MIAA Jamboree of the year and in the process, slipped back to third place in the overall league standings on Monday.

Monday's MIAA Jamboree was hosted by Kalamazoo at the Kalamazoo Country Club.

Calvin posted a team score of 308 strokes while Trine took first at 297, Adrian second at 298 and Hope third at 304. Trine now trails Hope for first place by just one stroke while Calvin is 12 strokes out of first place and just one stroke ahead of fourth place Adrian.

Freshman John Van Noord (Troy/Oakland Christian HS) was again stellar for the Knights as shared medalist honors with Corey Bremigan of Trine with a round of 71. John Van Noord has now claimed medalist honors in back-to-back league tournaments and holds the overall MIAA lead with an average of 73.0 strokes-per-round.

Freshman Ben VanScoyk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and junior Justin Crow (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) were next with rounds of 78 while senior James Van Noord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) had an 81 as did junior Jason Zeigler (Mount Gilead, OH/Gilead Christian HS).

Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine at the Zollner Golf Club.

MEN'S SOCCER

FREELAND, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin forward Travis Vegter its Offensive Player of the Week in men's soccer for games played through Sept. 21.
Vegter, a senior from Hudsonville (Unity Christian HS), earned Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, scoring two goals and adding three assists as the defending MIAA champion Knights opened conference play with two wins.
He scored two goals and set up a third in a 4-0 victory over Alma, then added two assists in a 3-0 win over Kalamazoo. Vegter is being honored as Player of the Week for the sixth time in his career.
Calvin will host rival Hope on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
