Tyler Kruis Named MIAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week;
Swimming and Diving Teams Cited by Grand Rapids Press/Mlive.com As Top Area Performance of Past Week
MEN'S BASKETBALL
ROYAL OAK, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin center Tyler Kruis its Player of the Week in men's basketball for games played through February 15.
Kruis, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grandville Calvin Christian HS), averaged 17.5 points as the Knights won twice to stay within striking distance of first place in the MIAA race heading into the final week of the regular season. He scored 16 points and added four assists in an 86-59 win over Kalamazoo, and then added 19 points, including a clutch 3-point shot with 34 seconds remaining to put his team in the lead, to go along with seven rebounds in a 69-65 road win at Trine. Kruis, who is being honored as Player of the Week for the third time this season and fourth time in his career, shot 64 percent from the field (14 of 22) and made all six of his free throws for the week.
Calvin is back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Olivet at 8 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.

The Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up MIAA titles this past weekend at the MIAA Championships. The Knights were recently ranked at the top of the Grand Rapids Press/Mlive.com Top Five Performance List from the past week.
