Women's Lacrosse Picked Fifth in MIAA Preseason Poll;
Knights to Remember Event to Honor Calvin Women's Volleyball Team February 8;
Calvin-Hope Men's Basketball Rivalry to be Subject of Television Documentary February 2
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Defending champion Adrian has been picked as the preseason favorite to win the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse championship while Calvin has been picked to finish fifth.
A year ago, Calvin finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings at 2-4 in conference play but missed the four-team MIAA Tournament by virtue of a tiebreaker rule. Calvin finished 4-12 overall.
The Bulldogs of Adrian, who won the inaugural MIAA title last spring with a perfect 6-0 league record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament, received seven out of a possible nine first-place votes in the poll of the league's coaches. Alma, which received the other two first-place votes, is picked to finish second.
Calvin is scheduled to open its 2014 season on March 1 when it travels to Otterbein for a non-conference game.
MIAA conference action across the league is slated to begin on April 2. Calvin's league opener will be against rival Hope at Calvin.
A year ago, the MIAA featured a seven-team race but will now a full compliment of nine varsity teams competing this spring as Kalamazoo and Saint Mary's will be competing as varsity teams for the first time.

VOLLEYBALL
A special program to honor Calvin's 2013 NCAA III Volleyball champions will take place on Saturday, February 8 inside Van Noord Arena.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a desert reception followed by the main event program at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend with ticket prices listed as $10.00 for adults, $6.00 for students and individuals ages 5-18.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
A reminder that the Calvin/Hope men's basketball rivalry will be the subject of a documentary produced by Calvin alumn Ryan Terpstra. The documentary is scheduled to air on February 2 on WOOD-TV 8 in West Michigan at noon.
It will also re-air on cable outlets throughout the state of Michigan after the initial February 2 launch.
