Men's Basketball Defeats Adrian 71-44 in MIAA Tournament Semifinals - To Face
Hope in Final
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Calvin 71, Adrian 44
The Calvin men’s basketball team is headed to the MIAA Tournament Championship
game. The Knights booked their ticket to the title tilt with a 71-44 victory
over Adrian in the MIAA Tournament semifinals Thursday evening at Van Noord
Arena. Calvin will face rival Hope in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday night at Van Noord Arena. It will mark the seventh time in the last
eight years that the two teams have met in the final. Hope (18-8) defeated
Trine 76-63 in Thursday’s other semifinal contest.
Ranked 15th nationally, Calvin used a determined defensive effort to gain the
win over Adrian as the Knights (23-3 overall) limited the Bulldogs (18-8) to
26.3 percent field goal shooting overall. Calvin led 35-23 at halftime and
continued to widen its lead in the second half.
On the offensive end, Calvin’s post players came up big as junior Tyler Kruis
(Grand Rapids/Calvin Christian HS) had 15 points and sophomores Daniel Stout
(Escondido, CA/Escondido Calvin Christian HS) and Tyler Dykstra
(Holland/Holland Christian HS) 10 points apiece. Sophomore Jordan Brink (Dyer,
IN/Illiana Christian HS) had a solid game with 12 points including a steal and
breakaway dunk in the first half. Senior Tom Snikkers (Jenison/Unity Christian
HS) had a strong all-around effort as well with five points, six assists and
seven rebounds without a turnover. Senior guard Bryan Powell (Wyoming/Wyoming
Park HS) added eight points while senior point guard David Rietema (Grand
Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had four assists and no turnovers. Kruis also
blocked four shots in the win while Calvin held a 40-34 rebounding advantage.
Adrian was led in defeat by Sean Gallant with nine points.
Calvin will be making its 17th appearance overall in the MIAA Tournament
Championship game. Calvin is 8-8 in MIAA Tournament championship games.
MIAA TOURNAMENT TICKET INFO FOR SATURDAY
Calvin Students:
If Calvin is victorious on Thursday night, tickets for Saturday’s game will be
available at the Box Office on Friday, February 22, from 9:00am to 5:00pm and
on Saturday, February 23, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Calvin students may obtain 1
FREE ticket per student ID, with a maximum of 2 student ID’s per person until
12:00pm on Saturday, after which time tickets will be $3.00 while supplies
last. There are a limited number of
designated student tickets (860). Tickets will be available for purchase at
the Arena two hours before game time. All tickets will be General Admission.
All Others:
If Calvin is victorious on Thursday night, tickets for Saturday’s game will be
available at Calvin’s website (http://www.calvin.edu/boxoffice

), and at the Box Office on Friday, February 22, from 9:00am to 5:00pm and on

at 5:30pm if we are only hosting the men’s finals. All tickets will be General
Admission.
