TRACK AND FIELD TEAMS OPEN SEASONS AT GVSU BOB EUBANKS OPEN

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD

ALLENDALE - The Calvin men's and women's track and field teams opened their indoor campaigns on Friday at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State University.

Calvin put together a number of solid performances in the first competition of the new year.

On the men's side, senior Dan Kerr (Petoskey/Petoskey HS) won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:38.60 while senior Job Christiansen (New Ipswich, NH/Mascenic Regional HS) third (8:41.37) and senior Kevin Peterson (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) fourth (8:53.53). Sophomore Josh Ferguson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) was seventh (8:58.64).

In the men's triple jump, freshman Jon Cok (Grand Rapids) was fourth (40-3 1/2). He was also fourth in the high jump (6-2 3/4). Sophomore Calvin Kuyers (Lansing/Lansing Christian HS) was eighth in the 300 meters (36.35). In the mile run, sophomore Stephen Tubergen (Mount Prospect, IL/John Hersey HS) was sixth (4:26.67) and freshman Jeff Meitler (New Berlin, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran HS) seventh (4:30.76).

On the women's side, junior Nicole Michmerhuizen (Holland/Holland Christian HS) led the way with a win in the 3,000 meters, recording a blazing time of 10:03.59. Senior Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS) was second in the mile run (5:15.74) and sophomore Kate Ardinger (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) fourth (5:16.80) and senior Kaylea Brase (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial HS) seventh (5:21.09).

In the high jump, sophomores Kelley Tuinenga and Christian Geating (Abington, PA/Abington HS) tied for eighth with jumps of 4-11 3/4.

Both Calvin teams will compete next Friday at the Mike Lints Open hosted by Grand Valley.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
