CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR DECEMBER 4, 2012

Nick Holtrop Named Division III All-American by National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Women's Basketball Team Ranked Third in Two National Polls

MEN'S SOCCER

Calvin College senior Nick Holtrop has been named a second team Continental Tire Division III All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American.

A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School, Holtrop is receiving Division III All-America honors for the first time.

Holtrop is the seventh individual in Calvin men's soccer history to be named an All-American and it marks the eighth time a Calvin player has been so honored.

A midfielder, Holtrop collected four goals, seven assists and 15 points in helping lead Calvin to an unprecedented sixth consecutive MIAA regular season title this fall along with an MIAA Tournament title and a sixth straight trip to the NCAA III Tournament.

Earlier this fall, Holtrop was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player. He also landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team for the second straight year.

Over the course of his four-year career at Calvin, Holtrop was credited with 11 goals and 18 assists while serving as a center midfielder.

"I am very pleased to see Nick receive this award because it is a reflection of the strong tradition that the Calvin men's soccer program has produced over many years," said first-year Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Nick had a terrific career at Calvin and in specific, an outstanding senior year. He was part of a strong senior class that made this season a special one for Calvin College and for me as a first-year head coach."

Under the guidance of Souders, Calvin finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 16-4-1 and a league record of 12-1-1.
