CROSS COUNTRY

*Calvin senior Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN/Illiana Christian HS) earned an All-America berth at the NCAA III Championships on Saturday with a 26th place finish. Kramer concludes his running career at Calvin with 11 All-America berths including two in cross country. Kramer was 16th at the 2010 NCAA III Cross Country Championships. He has also gained All-America plaudits eight times in track and field including a national championship in the steeplechase at the 2012 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

*Calvin senior Job Christiansen (New Ipswich, NH/Mascenic Regional HS) claimed his first-ever All-America berth by placing 35th at NCAA III Championships. MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Calvin men's and women's basketball teams were both in tournament action this past weekend. The Calvin men won their own tipoff tournament, defeating Grace Bible 84-53 and North Park 83-54. Junior Tyler Kruis (Grand Rapids/Calvin Christian HS) was named the tournament MVP and joined on the all-tournament team by senior teammate Bryan Powell (Wyoming/Wyoming Park HS).

The Calvin women's team competed in a highly competitive Coaches vs Cancer Tournament hosted by Millikin University Friday and Saturday. Top-ranked Calvin faced third-ranked St. Thomas on Friday and came away with a 78-72 victory. On Saturday, Calvin fell to seventh-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point 84-63. Both of Calvin's games featured meetings against opponents it faced in the NCAA III Tournament a year ago. Calvin senior Carissa Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) had 23 points against St. Thomas and 14 points against Stevens Point to move past 2007 graduate Lisa Winkle and into first place on the all-time Calvin scoring list.

Of special note, the Coaches Vs Cancer Tournament program featured individual cancer stories from each of the four competing teams. Calvin's story focused on current Calvin assistant coach Courtney Kurncz and her three-year old nephew Peter Kurncz who was diagnosed with stage four brain and spine cancer last winter. Young Peter was recently declared cancer free. His story can be found on page two of the tournament program at: http://athletics.millikin.edu/documents/2012/11/16/2012_CVC_Program.pdf?id=859

Both Calvin basketball teams are at home on Tuesday with the women hosting Manchester at 5:30 p.m. and the men's team hosting Anderson at 7:30 p.m.
