It not only marks the second straight year that a Calvin player has been named
national player of the year in volleyball, but also marks the second straight
year that a member of the Kamp family has done so. A year ago, older sister
Rebecca Kamp was named the AVCA Division III Player of the Year.
A native of Orland Park, Illinois, and a graduate of Chicago Christian High
School, Lizzie Kamp has also been named a first team AVCA Division III
All-American. A year ago, she was a second team pick.
An outside hitter, Kamp will help lead the top-ranked Calvin women's volleyball
team this week at the NCAA III Finals at Hope College.
This fall, she has posted a hitting percentage of .319 wile averaging 4.43
kills-per-set. She also averages 2.02 digs-per-set and has racked up 32 service
aces and 45 blocks on the season.
Over the course of her four-year career, Kamp has helped Calvin fashion an
overall won-loss record of 124-14. During that four-year span, Calvin has
earned four berths in the NCAA III Tournament and in 2010, captured the
school's first national title in volleyball. Last weekend, she was named to the
all-tournament team of the regional hosted by Calvin. Earlier this fall was
named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first
team for the third straight year. She was a four-time MIAA Player of the Week
selection during the fall and was named to the Otterbein/Capital Tournament
all-tournament team earlier in the fall.
At 31-2, Calvin is headed into national tournament play tomorrow night when it
faces the University of Puget Sound at 8 p.m. at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse in a
national quarterfinal match. Calvin will enter the match ranked number-one in
the country while Puget Sound is ranked 12th.
