Women's Golf Establishes School Record In Placing Third at MIAA Jamboree;
Calvin-Hope Volleyball Rivalry Set to Renew Friday Night at Van Noord Arena
WOMEN'S GOLF
MARSHALL - The Calvin women’s golf team opened its 2012 MIAA fall campaign in
strong fashion on Thursday afternoon, posting a third place score of 338
strokes at the first MIAA Jamboree of the year. Calvin’s score is the lowest in
school history at an MIAA competition.The league tournament was hosted by
Olivet at the Bedford Valley Country Club. Calvin tied for third place with
Saint Mary’s (IN) and finished just two strokes back of second place Hope. Host
Olivet took first place on Thursday with a team score of 324 strokes led by
Theresa Damico who fired an MIAA course record score of 72.
Calvin was paced by senior Elise Doezema who carded a round of 79 that was
good for second place individually in Thursday’s tournament. Junior Carlia
Canto also had a fine afternoon with an 83 that left her in a tie for sixth
place individually. Close behind were freshmen Jennie Poole and Casey Harkema
with rounds of 87 and 89 respectively. Senior Rachel Whitaker rounded out
Calvin’s finishers on Thursday with a 97.
Calvin finished 23 strokes ahead of fifth place Trine University.
The top four teams at the conclusion of the MIAA fall season will qualify for
the four-team MIAA spring tournament that is used to determine the league’s
automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Tournament.
Calvin is back in action on Saturday when it competes at an MIAA Jamboree
hosted by Alma at the Pine River Country Club with opening tee times set for 1
p.m.

Another edition of the Calvin-Hope women’s volleyball rivalry will take place
Friday at Calvin’s Van Noord Arena at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. A pregame
tailgate will take place inside the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex from 5:30 p.m.
to 6:30 p.m. sponsored by the Calvin Game Day staff featuring pizza and ice
cream.
Friday’s match will pit a pair of top-four nationally-ranked teams as Calvin
(11-1) will enter the match ranked second while Hope (13-1) is ranked fourth.
Calvin will enter the match ranked seventh nationally in hitting percentage
(.271), 12th in blocks-per-set (2.44) and 20th in assists-per-set (12.24).
Individually, Calvin senior Lizzie Kamp is ranked 10th nationally in
kills-per-set (4.32) while junior setter Megan Rietema is ranked 31st in
assists-per-set (10.0). On the Hope side, the Flying Dutch are ranked sixth
nationally in team hitting percentage (.287), 10th in kills-per-set (13.64) and
16th in assists-per-set (12.39). Individually, Hope setter Greer Bratschie is
ranked eighth in assists-per-set (10.8) while hitter Jenna Grasmeyer is ranked
sixth in kills-per-set (4.52).
Friday’s match will feature a live stats scoreboard online, an audio broadcast
and a live video stream.
