Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Weekend Matches To Regionally-Ranked Foes;
Softball Picked Eighth in MIAA Preseason Conference Coaches' Poll;
John Ross to Be Guest on D3hoops.com's Hoopsville Program This Evening;

WOMEN'S TENNIS

WHEATON, IL - The Calvin women's tennis team dropped a pair of matches over
the weekend to regionally-ranked foes. On Friday, Calvin fell at Wheaton 8-1
and then dropped an 8-1 decision on Saturday to Coe (IA) in a match played at
Wheaton. Wheaton enetered the weekend ranked eighth in the latest Central
Region rankings while Coe was ranked ninth.
 
Freshman Alli Roode picked up wins for Calvin in both matches, claiming a 6-2,
6-4 win at No. 6 singles against Wheaton and then recording a 6-3, 6-4 win at
No. 6 singles against Coe.
 
Calvin returns to action on Thursday when it faces Aquinas College at the
Riverview Racquet Club at 2 p.m.
 
SOFTBALL
 
The 2012 preseason MIAA softball coaches’ poll has been announced and Calvin
has been picked to finish eighth out of nine teams. Two-time defending champion
Alma has been picked to repeat as champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate
Athletic Association in the poll while Adrian is picked to finish second and
Trine third. Calvin returns seven letterwinners from its 2011 team that
finished 6-28 overall. The Knights welcome in 10 freshmen to the 17-player
roster this year. Calvin is scheduled to open its season on March 2 with a
doubleheader against Mount St. Joseph in Danville, Kentucky. The Knights open
their MIAA season on April 5, traveling to Saint Mary’s for a twinbill.

Calvin College women's basketball coach John Ross will be a guest of the
D3hoops.com online radio program Hoopsville this evening at 7:15 p.m.
Hoopsville, which is produced by D3hoops.com's Dave McHugh will air from
7-to-10 p.m. tonight. The entire Hoopsville program this evening will be aired
