Four Volleyball Players Named to AVCA Division III Great Lakes All-Region
Teams/Amber Warners Named Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year/Rebecca and
Lizzie Kamp Named to Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball Teams/Calvin

VOLLEYBALL
 
Four members of the Calvin women's volleyball team have received AVCA Division
III Great Lakes All-Region honors. The four Calvin players named to the
all-region honor team are seniors Rebecca Kamp and Erin VanderPlas, junior
Lizzie Kamp and sophomore Megan Rietema. As members of the all-region team, all
four individuals are now eligible for All-America consideration.
 
A middle-hitter, Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) is
receiving all-region honors for the fourth straight year. Kamp is currently
ranked 11th nationally in blocks-per-set (1.33), eighth in hitting percentage
(.415), 13th in points-per-set (4.95) and 30th in kills-per-set (3.9). Last
week, she was named to the All-MIAA first team for the fourth straight year and
was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player for the third time in four years.
 
An outside hitter, VanderPlas (Cadillac/Northern Michigan McBain Christian HS)
is receiving all-region honors for the first time. She is averaging 2.54
kills-per-set along with an attack percentage of .290. In a first round NCAA
III Tournament win over St. Norbert Thursday night, VanderPlas racked up 15
kills and a .433 hitting percentage to lead Calvin to a three-set win. Last
week, she was named to the All-MIAA second team.
 
An outside hitter, Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) is
receiving all-region accolades for the third straight years. She is currently
ranked 36th nationally in hitting percentage (.351) while averaging 3.24 kills
and 2.19 digs-per-set. Last week, she was named to the All-MIAA first team for
the second straight year.
 
A setter, Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) is also receiving
Great Lakes All-Region honors for the second straight year. She is ranked 13th
nationally in assists-per-set average (10.7) and is also averaging 1.73 digs
and 0.98 blocks-per-set. Last week she landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team
for the second straight year.
 
Calvin is currently 32-0 and ranked number-one in the country. The Knights
will host rival Hope in a second round NCAA III Tournament match this evening
at 7 p.m. at Calvin's Van Noord Arena.
 
MORE VOLLEYBALL
 
Rebecca Kamp and Lizzie Kamp have been named to the Division III Capital One
All-District 6 team in women's volleyball. This is the first year that the
Capital One Academic All-America program coordinated by the College Sports
Information Director’s Association of America (CoSIDA) has been split into four
separate divisions.
 
In past years, the program was split into a University (Division I) and
College Division (Division II, III and NAIA schools). Beginning with this year,
the program now has a separate division for Division I, Division II, Division
III and a fourth division for NAIA and two-year institutions. Calvin is also
now located in District 6 which includes Division III schools in the states of
Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. As a member of the all-district team
 
As members of the Capital One Academic All-District team, both Kamp sisters
are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
 
Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) carries a 3.91 grade point
average while majoring in special education. This is the third straight year
that she has received academic all-district honors. On the volleyball court,
she is a three-time first team AVCA Division III All-American, a four-time
Great Lakes All-Region choice, a four-time All-MIAA pick and a three-time MIAA
MVP. During her first year at Calvin, she was also named the Great Lakes
Regional Freshman of the Year.
 
Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) carries a 3.70 grade point
average. She is majoring in accounting. She is receiving academic all-district
honors for the first time. During her career, she has been named to the
All-MIAA first team and Great Lakes All-Region team twice. As a freshman, she
was named the Great Lakes Regional Freshman of the Year.
