All-MIAA Women's Soccer Teams Announced;
NCAA III Start Times Set for Calvin Men's Soccer/Women's Volleyball;
Calvin Athletes Receive MIAA Player of the Week Honors

WOMEN'S SOCCER
 
The All-MIAA women's soccer teams have been announced and three Calvin players
have received all-conference accolades. Juniors Francesca Smith and Liz Cancel
have been named to the All-MIAA first team while sophomore Danielle Carter has
been named to the All-MIAA second team.
 
A midfielder, Smith (Bloomington, IN/Thomas Jefferson HS) is receiving
All-MIAA first team honors for the second straight year. In conference play
this year, Smith had six goals, seven assists and 19 points to tie for eighth
in the MIAA scoring race Of her six goals, three were game-winners including a
goal in the closing seconds of a 2-1 win over Saint Mary's in early October.
 
A forward Cancel (St. Clair Shores/Fraser HS) finished third in the MIAA
scoring race with 29 points while also finishing third in goals with 12. During
the league season, she notched at least one point in 12 of a possible 16 games.
She is receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time.
 
A midfielder, Carter (DeWitt/DeWitt HS) tallied four goals, three assists and
11 points. She is receiving All-MIAA second team accolades for the first time.
 
Calvin finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 10-6-0 and tied for
fourth place in the league standings with a 10-6-0 league mark.
 
NCAA III START TIMES SET FOR MEN'S SOCCER/WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
 
The Calvin men's soccer team will face Carthage College on Friday in a first
round NCAA III Tournament game at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. The game will
be played at the Loras College Rock Bowl at 6 p.m. (EST). A live video stream

Meanwhile, match times and ticket prices have been set for the NCAA III
volleyball regional scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Calvin.

MORE VOLLEYBALL
 
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin middle hitter Rebecca Kamp its Player of the Week and Calvin defensive
specialist Kelly Gordon its Specialty Player of the Week for matches played
through November 5.
 
Kamp, a senior from Orland Park, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), had 14 kills in
17 attempts for a hitting percentage of .765, a Van Noord Arena record, as the
Knights swept Hope in the championship match of the MIAA tournament. She
finished with 22 kills and eight blocks for the tournament. Kamp is being
honored as Player of the Week for the second time this season and eighth time
in her career.

Gordon, a junior from Caledonia (Grand Rapids South Christian HS), played a
key role on defense with 28 digs in two matches as Calvin won the MIAA
tournament. She had 11 digs in a semifinal win over Trine, then had 17 digs in
the championship match against Hope. Gordon is being honored as Specialty
Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
 
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
 
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named
Calvin’s Lexi Scott its Women’s Swimmer/Diver of the Week award for meets
through November 5.Scott, a freshman from Richmond, Ind. (Richmond HS), won the
200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.14 as the Knights rallied to defeat
Wheaton, Ill., 147-137, in a non-conference dual meet.
 
 She also placed third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.92 and fourth in the
100 breaststroke in 1:12.58.
 
Calvin returns to action this weekend when it hosts Wayne State Friday for a
non-conference meet and then travels to rival Hope on Saturday for a conference
meet.
